Upgrade for parking at Brisbane Airport

Friday, 18 Jul, 2006 0

Construction of a multi-level undercover car park is under way at Brisbane Airport’s International Terminal.

Costing $35 million, the four-storey facility will be completed by August 2007 and will feature 1740 undercover and 620 outdoor car spaces. It will also provide improved security and safety, with video surveillance and all-weather, 24-hour access to the International Terminal.

The construction of the car park is the first step in a $300 million expansion of the International Terminal, prompted by soaring passenger numbers.

Some 3.6 million passengers use Brisbane’s International Terminal each year, and unprecedented growth is expected with the introduction of new larger aircraft.

The new car park will be constructed on the site of the existing International Terminal Car Park.

While construction is under way, the existing public car park will be closed and an alternative public car park will be provided to the north of the International Terminal.

The new car park at the International Terminal is part of BAC’s $2 billion roll-out of vital airport infrastructure over the next seven years involving further upgrades to the Brisbane Airport road network, upgrading of the domestic and international terminals and a new parallel runway.
