Upgraded Carnival Triumph sells out
The ill-fated Carnival Triumph, which spent several days adrift in the Gulf of Mexico after an engine fire, is back in service.
The Triumph will depart on Thursday from Galveston on a sold-out cruise to Mexico.
Surely you know the story: A February cruise of the Caribbean brought cold food, unsanitary conditions, inoperable air conditioning, and power outages until the ship was towed to Mobile, Alabama. There it was damaged even more when it broke away from its moorings in a storm.
Carnival has spent $115 million repairing and upgrading the ship.
All the beds are new, all the carpet is new. There are new fire safety systems and redundant operating systems that will keep hotel services running if the engine goes off.
On a lighter note, the Carnival Triumph also now sports Guy’s Burger Joint, Blue Iguana Cantina and Tequila Bar, Red Frog Rum Bar, Alchemy Bar, and EA Sports Bar.
