US bans airline ticket sales to Belarus
The Department of Transportation has banned the sale of air tickets to Belarus. It issued an order proposing to ban ticket sales between the US and Belarus.
It comes a month after Belarus forced a Ryanair plane to land in Minsk and promptly arrested a journalist onboard who had been a critic of government policy.
President Biden condemned Belarus’ actions as a ‘direct affront to international norms’ as the US imposed sanctions on various officials in the country. The European Union also banned flights over Belarus airspace.
