US on-time flights getting better
The best on-time airline: Hawaiian Airlines. The worst: Alaska.
That was based on on-time arrivals and departures for the month of May, according to the US Department of Transportation’s monthly report.
Hawaiian Airlines had a 96% on-time rate, while Alaska only had a 59% rate.
Alaska also tied for the second-worst record of canceled flights.
Overall, the nation’s largest airlines had improved on-time performances and cancelled fewer flights in May compared to the previous year.
Twenty carriers reported an on-time performance rate of 83.7%, above the previous year’s 77.6%.
The Bureau said carriers canceled 0.9% of flights in May compared to 1.7% last year.
The most common reason for delays: aviation system problems, followed by late-arriving aircraft.
