US pushing China to approve return of Boeing 737 Max

Wednesday, 18 Jun, 2021 0

The US administration is in ongoing talks with China to exert pressure to win approval for the Boeing 737 Max to resume flying in the country.

"China’s a big market, and we have to make sure American companies can do business there and export there," Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said in a Bloomberg TV interview.

The Max jet has returned to service in several countries in the Americas and Europe but months later, it is still to get off the ground in China.

China was the first country to ground the Max after two fatal crashes.

"China’s civil aviation authorities maintain communication with the FAA and they are advancing relevant work in an orderly and positive way," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said this week.

Chinese airlines have nearly 100 grounded Max jets in their fleets, although no ailine in the country has ordered any new max planes for several years.
