Vegas cop stands trial for casino heists
A Las Vegas police officer accused of several Las Vegas casino heists is set to appear at trial today.
Opening statements begin Tuesday.
Caleb Rogers allegedly stole nearly $165,000 in three robberies at casinos off the Las Vegas Strip.
Prosecutors say he was a gambling addict who became desperate to clear large gambling debts.
The robberies took place over a four-month period.
Rogers is a Las Vegas metro police officer of seven years and now is on unpaid leave.
Prosecutors said he used his police issued weapon in at least one of the robberies.
He was caught during the third robbery when fleeing the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.
