Visit Mexico online platform revived with private funding
The Visit México tourism promotion platform has been resurrected with private fundis.
Previously run by the now mothballed Tourism Promotion Council, it will receive US$90 million in private funds over the next five years.
It is being led by businessman Marcos Achar, who along with his business partners, acquired marketing company Braintivity, which used to have a contract with the Secretariat of Tourism (Sectur).
Private funding will come from Google, Discovery Channel and hotel company Grupo Posadas, and the state-run Tourism Diplomacy Council will collaborate on marketing strategy.
Other funding will be sought from tourism industry service providers as well as international companies.
Details were announced by tourism secretary Miguel Torruco who said ‘not a peso’ of public money is being used.
The relaunched site features pages for all of Mexico’s 31 states and Mexico City showcasing local destinations and attractions.
It will be available in 10 languages including English, Spanish, French, German and Chinese.
