von Essen acquires Hunstrete House for ‘under £6m’
Luxury chain von Essen has confirmed the acquisition of country house hotel Hunstrete House, near Bath.
The value of the transaction for the 25-room Georgian property, set in almost 100 acres of grounds at the edge of the Mendip Hills, is described as being “under £6 million”.
The deal brings the von Essen portfolio up to 25 hotels, including Cliveden in Berkshire and the Royal Cescent in Bath.
The company’s chairman Andrew Davis said: “The last few months has seen von Essen’s first step into London and the start of our drive into Europe.
“We have also expanded our luxury aviation business, with the purchase of Premi-Air from the Sir Robert McAlpine Group.
“The acquisition of Hunstrete is a reminder that our primary passion is for great British houses, beautiful landscapes and fine art, so ensuring their joys are conserved for the delight of our guests and the benefit of future generations.”
