Voyager of the Sea arrives
The largest cruise ship ever to call Australia home arrives in its new home port of Sydney on Thursday evening.
Voyager of the Sea, at 137,270 tonnes, is the eighth largest ship in the world, and can carry up to 3,800 passengers.
She arrives in Sydney with 3,046 guests on board after sailing an 18-night Australia and New Zealand cruise.
Voyager of the Seas will be based in Australia for the summer, cruising the South Pacific and New Zealand.
When it was built in 1999 the shipbuilders presented the then captain with a scooter so he could get around the 15 decks more easily.
Ship’s captain, Charles Tiege, says, "It is just like a floating city. We have everything from an ice-skating rink, to golf, basketball, movies, and kids’ programmes."
This Australian cruise season, Royal Caribbean International alone will host more then 125,000 guests – an impressive leap from 35,000 guests two seasons ago.
