Weather hinders rescue efforts of crashed Nepal plane
The fate of 22 people is unclear after a Tara Air plane crashed in Nepal on Sunday.
The de Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter carrying 19 passengers and three crew, went down between Pokhara and the Himalayan town of Jomsom.
Authorities say they believe they have located the crash site based on transponder data and witness accounts.
However, they were unable to get to the location due to bad weather.
“Once our troops reach the location then only we can verify the findings officially and independently,” the Nepal Army said.
“Our helicopter rescue team is on standby at Jomsom airport. . .waiting for good weather.”
Jomsom is a popular trekking destination with trekkers.
The plane’s occupants included a family on pilgrimage to the Muktinath Temple.
Tara Air spokesman Sudarshan Bartaula two passengers were German trekkers.
