Westin’s First New Zealand Hotel to Open in Auckland
Auckland’s prestigious waterfront precinct is the exciting location for an architecturally outstanding Westin hotel, said Sean Hunt, Area Managing Director, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Australia, NZ & Pacific speaking at a candlelit boutique trade launch in the Heritage Wing of the Westin Sydney last night.
The Westin Auckland, Lighter Quay will be New Zealand’s first purpose built five-star hotel and the first Westin branded hotel in the country, he said.
The new 173 room property will include nine suites, an Executive Club lounge, an all day dining restaurant, a bar and café, 11,000 sq. ft of meeting space, a health club and a spa.
Due to open in mid 2007, The Westin Auckland will be the fourth Westin property in the Pacific region joining renowned Westin hotels in Melbourne, Sydney and the recently opened resort and spa on Denarau Island, Fiji.
The new hotel to be sited on the waterfront of Auckland’s central business district is destined to become the signature project of the $300 million Lighter Quay project, said Mr Hunt.
The launch of The Westin Auckland Lighter Quay is the eighth Westin development announced by Starwood during 2006.
Other new Westins announced this year include luxury properties in Guangzhou, Zhjiang and Beijing in China; Bangalore and Sohna in India; Fiji and Langkawi, Malaysia.
