Why can’t airports show movies?

Tuesday, 08 Jul, 2013 0

What travelers really want from an airport is something none actually offer: a movie theater.

A global survey of more than 10,000 travelers by Skyscanner.com found that a cinema was the number-one request, cited by 49% of respondents.

Sleep pods were the second most popular facility, with more than a third of travel-weary respondents just looking for a place to lay their heads.

Almost as many, 32%, would love an airport library.

More than 30% also voted for a green outdoor area, or a vanity area offering a salon and spa.

Just 20% wanted a pool, 15% wanted a gym, 12% wanted a man-made beach, and 11% voted for bikes.

While it stands to reason that travelers would want to do in the airport what they do on the plane, few airports are on the case.

Singapore’s Changi airport does in fact offer movies.

Hong Kong International has an Imax theater, but tickets are pricey, running $45 to $60. It also has a golf course.

Nappers in U.S. airports can look for Minute Suites facilities in Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson, Philadelphia International, and Dallas-Fort Worth.

For $34, they offer a private space with a daybed sofa, an HDTV, and a computer.

Showers are an additional $25 for 30 minutes.
