Why choose Fiji for a holiday?

Thursday, 22 May, 2007 0

For agents having difficulty advising their clients about whether they should travel to Fiji on holiday, perhaps they should take a leaf out of the experience and advice that first time visitors to Fiji and first time overseas travellers, Geoff and Sandra of Wollongong benefited by as a result of speaking to their knowledgeable travel agent.

When Geoff and Sandra spoke with The Mole at Tokirki in Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands last week, they said that their travel agent at Wollongong Travel Centre told them that there was no problem with Fiji but if they had any concerns to go to an island, which is just what they did.

Their travel agent also gave them some books to look at and to choose from those and let her know and they also gave some though to the Maldives, but at the end of the day Fiji won.

Geoff and Sandra said that they chose three resorts, with the one core criteria of no kids, with one that they chose meaning that they had to stay in Nadi overnight which they did not want to do, the second Likuliku which they were not certain would be open by the time they intended travelling and also they were told it was on the side of a hill, with lots of steps (which is actually not true – Likuliku needs to correct that mistaken impression!) and the third Tokoriki.

As The Mole met with Geoff and Sandra in Tokoriki their final decision was clear and they told The Mole that they were really enjoying their stay, including the bure, the excellent food and as everyone stresses, the fabulous Fijian people and staff at Tokoriki.

While they said Tokoriki was not cheap, it was not the most expensive resort they had looked at and they felt that it was excellent value for money with a sensational welcome, making them very pleased with their choice.

They decided to book a sunset pool villa which they said was absolutely stunning and they loved having their own private pool to cool off in and Sandra particularly liked not having to go the main pool.

They also said that on the islands, you would never know there had been a coup and that it appeared to be part of life here in Fiji.

When asked if they would recommend Fiji to their friends and in particular Tokoriki, they said absolutely and without any question.  If fact a group of couples back in Wollongong are waiting for them to come back from this trip to hear how it went, so that they can all book to go to Tokoriki for ten days over New Year.  They were going to spend New Year in Sydney but compared to that they could go to Tokiriki for ten days.
