Wild and woolly weather brings more fresh snow to Falls Creek

Friday, 20 Jun, 2007 0

Overnight the alpine resort of Falls Creek continued its transformed into a mid-winter, picture-postcard scene, as it was again covered by a further blanket of fresh snow.

The severe weather warning alert from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is good news for skiers and boarders, with more snow falling today and the forecast to continue cold and snowy for most of the week.

And the other good news is, it was a very chilly -4.6C overnight, ideal weather for snow-making!

The average snow depth in the snow-making area at Falls Creek currently varies between an average 61.4cm around Mousetrap to over a metre (118cm) at Boardwalk and is continually increased by ongoing snow-making.

As the Winter Solstice (and school holidays) approaches the optimism amongst snow enthusiasts is rising, with this weekend one of the best for some years.

The fun boxes are a hit with the kids and some of the groomed cross-country trails (classic and skating) are in very good condition.

The early season snowfalls have stimulated interest in the most popular school holiday period, between late June and mid-July.

The booking centres at Falls Creek strongly recommends anyone locked into that part of the snow season to secure accommodation as soon as possible.

Some lodge-style accommodations still available for the forthcoming school holidays include bed and breakfast rates at Feathertop, Halleys, Julians, Karelia, Trackers and Lakeside Lodge.

A five day package at Halleys including five nights accommodation, bed and breakfast costs from $775 per adult. Child five to 14 years is $582 and a child under four is free.

Lakeside Lodge also has some vacancies from July 1.

Its five night bed & breakfast package costs $414 for four to six year old children, $621 for 7-14 year old kids and $828 for each adult.

Julian’s Lodge five night package includes a 5 day ski lift pass, skis boots and poles or snowboard and boots, bed and breakfast. Cost $1,165 per adult, kids 6 -14 yrs $815.00.

Bar and Restaurant facilities available also indoor pool and sauna
