Will.i.am left grounded and other techie tales
Ever wondered what life would be like in ten years? While we can’t give a definitive answer on that one, Skyscanner has released a report on the future of travel. The company teamed up with 56 travel experts to analyse the new technology breakthroughs which will shape the travel industry over the next decade. Our favourite projection is the personal digital assistant, which will come in the form of wearable technology devices such as watches, and will be an all-inclusive tour guide, translating in real time, creating personalised itineraries and conducting tours. Wearable technology is already flooding the market and a number of companies are already developing these high-tech travel innovations that will change the face of travel as we know it.
If ever there was a lesson to be learned about making sure you arrive at an airport with enough time ahead of a flight, it was demonstrated by Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am this week. The music mogul tweeted his frustrations on Tuesday after arriving at the airport for a United Airlines flight from New York to China 45 mins before take-off only to find that his seats had been given away. He posted ‘Make sure when you fly to china via @united you get to the airport 1day before because they’ll give your seats away’ (sic). FYI, if you are travelling with United Airlines, they advise you arrive at least an hour before the scheduled departure time.
Remember the fun you had as a kid making new friends on holiday – so many promises to remain in touch. Well now you can re-live that experience as an adult. According to the Huffington Post, making friends as an adult, while abroad is far easier than you might think. Shipmate is the perfect app for those heading on a cruise and hoping to meet new people, it allows you not only to see your ship’s itinerary and plan excursions, but also to chat with your fellow passengers prior, during and after your sailings. For those travelling alone for business or pleasure and hoping to meet like-minded people, Travel Buddies is the answer. It’s simple really, when you arrive somewhere new just click members nearby and choose from the list that comes up you can start chatting and plan to meet up. The pen pal is back, and this time it’s technical.
And finally a timelapse video, this time of Turkey… Italian filmmaker Leonardo Dalessandri has created a masterpiece which takes the viewer on an unforgettable journey. Showcasing the tastes, sights and sounds of this rich cultured country the editing and composition is quite extraordinary. Covering over 3,500km in 20 days Dalessandri’s tour of Turkey has us packing our bags already.
