Wizz Air trials charge for large cabin bags
Low cost airline Wizz Air is to start charging for large cabin baggage on a trial Luton to Katowice route from August 1.
The airline claims the move is to enhance on-time performance and improve the experience for customers.
Passengers will have to pay 10 euros (about £8) per piece of large hand baggage – like a small trolley case – but will get to board the plane early after priority passengers so there is space in overhead lockers.
Travellers will still be able to bring on small hand luggage – like handbags or laptops – and items bought at the airport without paying extra.
A small cabin bag will be up to 42cm x 32cm x 25cm. A large bag with be from that to 55cm x 40cm x20cm.
The airline believes the new fee for large cabin baggage will encourage passengers to bring one small bag instead.
If the trial between Luton and Poland is successful, the policy will be rolled out through the whole Wizz Air network.
