Royal Caribbean is assessing damage to the Oasis of the-Seas after a construction crane slammed into the ship during a dry dock renovation.

The accident happened at Freeport in the Bahamas as the ship was undergoing a routine refurbishment.

The shipyard’s management and the cruise line said eight people were injured but their injuries are not life threatening.

"We are responding to a construction site incident at the Great Bahamas Shipyard, where Oasis of the Seas is currently in dry dock," said cruise line spokesperson Melissa Charbonneau, who added that the extent of the damage is still being assessed.

"We are aware of damage to the dock structure and to construction cranes."

Cell phone footage showed the ship listing dockside and a large crane leaning on the side of the ship.

It is unclear yet if damage sustained to the ship will affect future cruise schedules.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
