Wyndham checking into Myanmar
Wyndham has become the latest global hotel group to enter the burgeoning Myanmar market with the signing of an agreement for a new five-star property in Yangon.
Wyndham Grand Yangon Royal Lake will form part of the mixed use Kantharyar Centre Project beside Kandawgyi Lake.
"With more than three million visitors in 2014, Myanmar is growing in popularity among business and leisure travellers, and we continue to be at the forefront of emerging markets," said Barry Robinson, president of Wyndham Hotel Group, South East Asia and Pacific Rim.
"The construction of a new international airport will continue to help draw more visitors, creating greater demand for high-quality, internationally recognised hotel brands like Wyndham."
The 260-room hotel will offer a banquet hall, conference rooms, a swimming pool, fitness centre, a spa and restaurants.
The hotel is being developed in collaboration with owner Asia Myanmar Shining Star Company and the US$157 million complex will also house serviced apartments, an office tower and retail outlets.
The project is scheduled for completion by 2017, said Asia Myanmar Shining Star Company spokesperson Kyaw Khaing.
Wyndham Hotel Group currently operates 60 hotels in the Asia Pacific region with a further 60 under development.
