Yorkshire Pub & Guest House Benefits From £350k Extension

Monday, 29 Jun, 2011 0

If ever there was proof that hard work, superb business values and passion by the bucket-load pay off, then the phenomenal success of Ye Old Sun Inn in Colton, near York, is it. Owners Ashley and Kelly McCarthy have just celebrated the opening of an ambitious £350,000 extension to the multi-award winning country pub.

Ashley and Kelly took over the running of Ye Old Sun Inn seven years ago and, in September 2009, they purchased the freehold from Enterprise Inns. They’ve hit just the right formula and turned a country pub that’s off the beaten track into a bustling destination venue with boutique guest accommodation. Along the way, they’ve won countless regional and national awards, receiving recognition from the UK’s hospitality industry, regional tourism bodies and customers alike.

The extension project has added a large multi-purpose function room and more than doubled the size of the kitchen to cope with the additional 50 to 60 cover capacity. The whole pub has been remodelled to incorporate the extension and provide an even more enjoyable experience for customers.

Two new full-time members of staff have been employed and Ashley and Kelly plan to take on another by the end of the year.

The extension was officially opened at a celebratory event for staff, customers, suppliers and contacts on Monday 27th June 2011 by The Mayor and Mayoress of Tadcaster, Councillor Edward and Mrs Linda Mansfield. In true Ye Old Sun Inn style, chocolatier Ashley created a plaque for The Mayor to unveil out of chocolate!

Councillor Mansfield commented: “Ashley and Kelly and the whole team have put in a superb effort to bring Ye Old Sun Inn to where it is today and the extension has been completed tastefully and to a very high standard. I wish them well for many more sunny years here in Colton.”

David Shields, Area Director for Welcome to Yorkshire, also joined in the official proceedings to congratulate Ashley and Kelly and the team at Ye Old Sun Inn on their success and wish them well for their next phase of growth.

David added: “The extension to Ye Old Sun Inn gives a hugely positive message to people visiting Yorkshire from both near and far. Publicans such as Ashley and Kelly recognise the importance of a superior food and drink offering to attract and retain customers. In situations such as this we see a ripple effect as a successful business grows and provides opportunities for suppliers and other businesses, to say nothing of the employment opportunities.”
