Yosemite wildfire: ‘Growth Potential: Extreme’
Governor Jerry Brown of California has declared a state of emergency as the fire burning near Yosemite National Park quadrupled in size yesterday.
Yosemite itself is still open, though State Route 120, one of three entrances into Yosemite on the west side, is closed.
Only 1% of the fire has been contained, and InciWeb.com calls its "Growth Potential: Extreme."
Hotels, stores and homes in Groveland, about 25 miles away, is threatened, and some surrounding areas have been evacuated.
The Ring Fire is one of more than 50 wildfires burning out of control in Western states at the height of tourist season. It now covers 99 square miles.
The California National Guard has joined the fire lines trying to slow its progress.
