Introducing the new Travel your heart out: Happiness List 2026, informed by global consumer research that looks beyond where people should go, and instead focuses on the experiences and moments that spark happiness, purpose and fulfillment. The findings reveal that travel can be a huge driver of long-term happiness and, for many travellers, it’s less about where they go, and more about the experience and how they feel. 85% of British respondents agree1 travel contributes to their long-term happiness, and 76% report feeling happy2 in everyday life when they have a trip booked, compared to only 39%3 without a holiday on the horizon. TRAVEL MOTIVATION It’s not just where you go, but how you feel - Travellers across generations are placing emotional fulfilment over ticking off famous sites. 69%4 saying they choose trips based on experiences over destinations, rising to 77%5 among 25–34 year olds, and 82%6 among adventure travellers, highlighting how purpose-driven travel is shaping a new era of exploration. The desire to feel something – awe, wonder, joy, connection – is outpacing the urge to simply “see” something. The power of connection and belonging - The study reveals that quality time with loved ones and joyful shared memories are the strongest contributors to happiness when travelling. 52% said time with family or a partner made them happiest on a past trip. Purpose-driven travel and understanding your place in the world - G Adventures believes that travel can drive understanding, overcome fear and be the fastest path to peace. 79% of travellers surveyed say travel makes them more understanding and empathetic of other cultures and 68% say being part of a community is important to them, while 73% say it helps them better understand themselves and their purpose – a sentiment strongest among 25–34 year olds (81%)8. Ethical travel is also a growing priority. 83% say they are thoughtful about who they travel with and their ethics, and 77% avoid experiences that don’t support the ethical treatment of animals. 82% say that it’s important to them to avoid overcrowded destinations and opt for more off-the-beaten track options or off-peak times of year9. Decompressing, disconnecting, and finding wonder - In an always-on world, the results show travellers are craving time to pause and breathe. 65%10 say they feel happier with longer holidays (two weeks or more), and 55% want to relax and de-stress, particularly 75+ year olds (74%). But it’s not just rest they’re seeking. 37% say they want to be active and explore on holiday, and 35% want to feel a sense of wonder. Many find that happiness in open, untamed landscapes, with 39% of respondents who put very remote destinations in their top 3 places ranking it as their top happiness driver and 30% representing the same for mountain environments. This growing appetite for balance, between activity and stillness, connection and solitude, reflects a new emotional dimension to travel: one that prioritises presence and perspective as much as escape. Not just a break, but a breakthrough - Supporting G Adventures’ belief that travel should be a breakthrough, 30% of travellers surveyed are seeking a trip that offers the notion of something ‘new’ and ‘different’ to their everyday lives, along with the desire to learn about how people in other parts of the world live. 36% said they wanted a trip to help them feel alive and energised. Going local - Modern travellers want to experience life like a local, not a visitor. 62% prefer trips that allow them to live like a local, and 88% value staying and eating in locally owned places – supporting communities while getting closer to the heart of a destination. Sustainability is front of mind too: 72% actively consider reducing their carbon footprint through rail or public transport11. Taste the destination - We’ve all heard the age-old saying ‘The way to a person’s heart is through their stomach’ and travellers seem to agree. 30% of travellers surveyed ranked ‘experiencing different foods and drinks to those I have at home’ as one of their top three drivers of happiness when travelling, with travellers aged 18-24 being the most likely to rank this as their number 1 if it is in their top 3 (29%). THE TRAVEL YOUR HEART OUT HAPPINESS LIST So, where and when are travellers truly their happiest selves? The data reveals that beachy bliss, city exploration, ocean escapes, sampling foods and drinks different to those at home and experiencing the culture of a destination top the global happiness chart. Based on the findings, G Adventures is on a mission to make 2026 the happiest travel year yet. The experts at G Adventures have selected 10 new travel experiences based on where travellers say they feel happiest and what motivates them to travel. These trips are guaranteed to leave travellers with smiles on their faces, a full heart, a renewed sense of community and the knowledge that they will leave the world a better place than when they found it.- BEACH TIME IN PANAMA: Beach time topped the happiness chart, with city exploration close behind when travellers were asked what made them happiest when travelling and this brand new 18-to-Thirtysomethings trip perfectly balances both. Young travellers start in vibrant Panama City, soaking up its dynamic mix of history and modern energy before heading off-grid to the San Blas Islands, where Indigenous-owned accommodations offer a rare chance to disconnect from screens and reconnect with life’s simple pleasures. With turquoise waters, traditional huts and boat trips between islands, happiness comes easily as travellers get into the rhythm of island life. The six-day Panama: Sandy Beaches and San Blas Islands starts from £699.
- EXPLORING NEW CITIES IN THE STANS: New cities, longer journeys, historical immersion, natural beauty and destinations that are far beyond the ordinary - this new 23-day journey through The Stans as part of the National Geographic Journeys with G Adventures collection ticks all the happiness boxes. From wandering the ancient streets of Khiva, Samarkand and Bukhara, to marvelling at natural wonders like Kaindy Lake’s sunken forest and the red rock cliffs of Charyn Canyon, this this region, shaped for centuries by the Silk Road trade, invites a deep sense of wonder, belonging and global connection, leaving travellers more in tune with the world - and themselves. The new 23-day Journeys: Echoes of the Silk Road starts from £5,649
- ON THE OCEAN IN THE ARCTIC: Remote landscapes and time on the water were among the biggest happiness boosters, and there’s nowhere more profound to experience both than the Arctic. Aboard the new G Expedition, the newly-launched Arctic Expeditions offer close encounters with icebergs and glaciers, robust wildlife policies and the opportunity to disconnect in this remote region. Plus, with David Attenborough’s new Frozen Planet available now, travellers can fill up their happiness bucket while they wait for their trip of a lifetime. The 11- day Realm of the Polar Bear starts from £5,499
- EXPERIENCING NEW FOODS AND WINES IN MOLDOVA: For those who find happiness in the joy of new foods and beverages on the road, this new seven-day Moldova trip is a true celebration of culture through cuisine. Travellers will explore underground wine cellars sampling the largest collection of exclusive wines in the country, join locals making traditional dishes and visit an eco-friendly cheese factory in a converted school. It’s about so much more than new flavours; every meal tells a story and every shared table builds a friendship in this often overlooked European gem. The new seven-day Moldova Discovery starts from £1,099
- SLOW DOWN, AVOID THE HOTSPOTS AND EXPERIENCE THE CULTURE OF A DESTINATION LIKE A LOCAL: In a world that’s always rushing, time to slow down, skip the obvious and uncover some of the world’s most interesting places is what many travellers seek most. And that’s the idea behind G Adventures’ three new Local Living trips in France, Morocco, and Iceland. Designed to bypass crowded tourist hotspots and support tourism dispersal, the Local Living collection encourages travelers to stay longer in fewer places, using local transportation, family-run accommodations, and community experiences, creating happiness through genuine human connection. Settling into a destination like locals, travelers will stay in guesthouses or homes, dine in local restaurants and spend time with members of the community. From a week spent in the High Atlas mountains in a family-run B&B, meeting local artisans, planting trees alongside villagers and hiking with local shepherds, to a remote hamlet stay in East Iceland, relaxing in geothermal pools, meeting quirky wildlife and warm-hearted locals and wandering coastal trails to sites of Icelandic folklore and spiritual tradition, these trips are about connection to the land, the locals and a lifestyle that embodies finding joy in the simple way of life. The new six-day Local Living Iceland - Bakkagerdi trip starts from £1,629
- A SENSE OF WONDER - ‘ECLIPSE OF THE CENTURY’ IN EGYPT AND MOROCCO: Few experiences evoke awe like a total solar eclipse and, in August 2027, travellers can witness six unforgettable minutes of celestial magic as the moon blocks the sun for the longest land-based time in decades. G Adventures has launched five new eclipse trips in Egypt and Morocco, offering nearly 400 travellers VIP access to eclipse viewing in prime path of totality locations, including from the deck of a boat on the Nile in Egypt and an exclusive viewing party in Chefchaouen, Morocco. Blending ancient wonders with a once-in-a-lifetime cosmic event, these trips are a must-have on the happiness list. The nine-day Morocco Eclipse 2027: Wonders of the Earth and Sky trip starts from £2679

- SUPPORTING WILDLIFE IN SOUTHERN AFRICA: Ethical travel and supporting wildlife emerged as key considerations for travellers when surveyed and this trip delivers both in abundance. Travellers will witness Africa’s most iconic wildlife in their natural habitats while discovering the vital role even the smallest species play in the ecosystem. Venture into the wild heart of Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park, learn what it takes to be a guide in South Africa’s legendary Kruger conservancy, and unwind amid the sophistication of the Cape Winelands - a guaranteed ticket to purpose-driven happiness. The 17-day Geluxe Southern Africa: Kruger, Victoria Falls & Zimbabwe National Parks starts from £7999.

Sailing Sri Lanka: South Coast starts departures this month, and offers travellers the opportunity to sail along Sri Lanka’s southern coastline, exploring remote beach towns, fishing villages and historic sites, along with plenty of time for swimming, surfing or just relaxing on the deck of the 54-foot catamaran, watching dolphins and blue whales in the water below. The ship will replace G Adventures’ ‘Expedition’, and will offer 128 travellers an enhanced onboard experience while preserving the adventurous spirit and warm, community-driven atmosphere that have defined G Adventures’ polar journeys for over 15 years. The new vessel, currently named Ocean Adventurer, has been chartered through Danish maritime company SunStone, and will take on the Expedition name in tribute to G Adventures’ much-loved “little red ship”. It will embark on its first G Adventures departure to Antarctica in October 2025. Having undergone major renovations- including brand-new engines- the more streamlined vessel is significantly more fuel-efficient than its predecessor. This played a critical role in G Adventures’ decision to change ship operations as the small-group operator strives to reduce its environmental footprint across all operations. G Adventures founder, Bruce Poon Tip says the new ship marks an exciting step for G Adventures’ polar program, securing the future of its small-ship expeditions and allowing room for expansion. “The Expedition has operated over 270 departures, taking over 30,000 travellers to some of the most remote regions of the world, and holds a very dear place in our hearts at G Adventures. And, while we all wanted to continue to operate our little red ship, it became apparent that doing so would not be good for the environment, or the business. As a company, we are always looking for ways to evolve, improve and lead from the front, so when the opportunity for this new ship presented itself, we knew we had to take it. The new ship marks an exciting leap forward - one that will allow us to continue delivering life-changing expeditions for our travellers, aboard a more comfortable and efficient vessel, while making big advancements in our climate goals as well. Our initial calculations estimate that the overall carbon footprint per person per day will drop by up to 30% as we transition to the new ship. It will also give us the opportunity to evaluate our wider polar program and opportunities for expansion - so watch this space!” “Having just returned from Antarctica myself, where I spent time with our customers, it’s clear that people book with G Adventures because they are seeking a real expedition, not a cruise. I really believe that we have created something special aboard the Expedition: a family which every guest becomes part of, alongside some of the most knowledgeable expedition leaders in the industry. As we set sail on this new adventure, we are committed to continuing the Expedition's legacy and tradition by retaining that ‘special sauce’ that makes each and every expedition departure with G Adventures so unique,” he continues. The new 102 metre long ship features a restaurant and bar, a large 170sqm presentation lounge, a library, fitness area, observation and sun deck and outdoor jacuzzis. The 70 cabins on board will provide G Adventures' most modern and stylish accommodation options to date, with each featuring either an ocean-facing porthole or window and ensuite bathrooms. Suites will include a double bed and larger sea-view windows, allowing travellers to observe the breathtaking sights and wildlife of the seventh continent from their room. Multishare twin and triple cabins provide travellers with a sociable option, that allows them to enjoy an expedition adventure of a lifetime at a fantastic price. While travellers on larger ships have their excursion time restricted, passengers with G Adventures will continue to enjoy the benefits of small-ship exploration, with 11 zodiacs hosting two daily excursions and all travellers having the opportunity to leave the ship at each stop. In addition, with at least 14 expedition experts on board, specialising in everything from marine biology to ornithology, the passenger to expert ratio of 10:1 means travellers are able to spend time and connect with some of the region’s leading experts on board. Daily lectures will continue to take place, as will the popular kayaking and camping excursions in Antarctica, which see travellers paddle past icebergs and sleep under the stars on the ice. The new ship is built with an Ice Class 1A for reinforced safety and maneuverability, as well as a refurbished propulsion system and updated stabilisers (Sperry Gyrofin), offering a smoother ride and helping to reduce motion sickness during rough crossings. “Demand for our polar offering continues to be incredibly strong, as travellers are drawn to our small-ship offering and a more immersive, expedition-style adventure in this truly unique part of the world. The Expedition has allowed us to deliver once-in-a-lifetime trips, at a great price, and we are excited to continue offering incredible experiences and value to our travellers as we enter this next chapter of our polar offering,” says Ben Perlo, chief executive officer at G Adventures. The new Expedition ship will operate five Antarctica itineraries, including:- Antarctica Classic - 11 days, starting from £6,899 per person*
- Spirit of Shackleton - 21 days, starting from £16,399 per person*
- Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica - 22 days, starting from £11,899 per person*

In line with G Adventures’ commitment to community tourism, the new adventures, which join the Classic travel style, give travellers the opportunity to discover untouched regions in the archipelagic country, while introducing them to fresh and impactful community initiatives that take them off-the-beaten-path in the more popular island hotspots such as Bali. As always, the small group adventure operator is working closely with local communities to bring the benefits of tourism to the regions where it’s needed most, and highlight areas of the country that have remained unseen, without much access to the tourism chain. The new itineraries will immerse travellers in barely-known, underexplored islands such as tropical Sulawesi, where they’ll discover the culture of the Torajan people and may even have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend a local funeral celebration. In Kalimantan, in Indonesian Borneo, they’ll spend time at a sanctuary for rescued orangutans, hike in the jungle and appreciate the unspoilt beauty of the region while staying in a traditional klotok boat. These experiences are carefully arranged and designed to create a positive impact on communities, while showing travellers the cultures and corners of the world that are often unseen. The Indonesian island of Bali has experienced overtourism in recent years; to address this, the new G Adventures trips will continue to operate consciously in regions such as Bali, Lombok and Borneo, steering travellers away from popular sites, or ensuring the group experiences them in sensitive, locally beneficial ways, by spending time at community projects developed by G Adventures’ non-profit partner, Planeterra. The 20 new trips join a handful of other new trips, launched earlier this year, straddling the Geluxe travel style (for those seeking one-of-a-kind accommodation and a comfortable yet active adventure) and Solo-ish, for solo travellers keen on the independence of exploring the world without existing friends or family, but with the chance for new connections and memories with people along the way. The new Classic trips can be combined back to back, giving travellers the chance to see more of the country if they choose several shorter week-long trips, while there are also longer 21- to 29-day itineraries to choose from. Yves Marceau, vice president of product at G Adventures, is excited that the new trips will help to disperse tourists across Indonesia, and take travellers on bold new adventures to quieter islands in the country. “We wanted to bring something exciting to Indonesia that introduced G Adventures travellers to the true culture and adventure that exists there,” he says. “Indonesia is undoubtedly a popular tourism destination, but most travel opportunities in the region focus on Bali and Lombok, while other locations and communities remain unseen. We wanted to revamp our trips to the country – and create entirely new ones – to give travellers the chance to spend more time at community projects in well-known islands, or travel deeper in the country, taking them much further off the beaten path. This brings the benefits of tourism income to other parts of Indonesia, but also gives travellers the opportunity to be truly adventurous, and learn from the fascinating communities that live here.” “The new trip to Sulawesi is unlike anything else out there,” he continues. “The communities in Tana Toraja have a unique perspective on how life, death and the afterlife are intertwined and this trip offers travellers the opportunity to understand more about this unique belief system” he adds. “The Torajan people honour the passing of loved ones with village-wide funeral celebrations, which families save for years to afford. We’ve worked with the communities to allow our groups visiting the villages to attend these once-in-a-lifetime celebrations when they are held. By taking G Adventures travellers to the region, we’re helping often overlooked communities access tourism income, and use it in ways that matter to them.” 20 new G Adventures trips in Indonesia are available to book now, and include: Sulawesi Adventure: The Culture of Tana Toraja This nine-day trip takes travellers truly off the tourist trail as they journey into the heart of Sulawesi, home to misty highlands and lush paddy terraces. In Tana Toraja, life, death, and the afterlife intertwine in ways that will challenge and surprise visitors. The group will explore villages where traditional cliffside tombs and elaborate funeral ceremonies honour loved ones for generations, and meet the Torajan people, hear their stories firsthand, and gain a deeper understanding of a culture that sees death not as an end, but as a sacred continuation. As part of the trip, the group will experience life through the eyes of locals and may even have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend a Torajan funeral – a ritual steeped in tradition that symbolises the respect for ancestors passing to the afterlife and a celebration that’s a privilege to witness. Priced from £1,199* per person, with departures from 14 December 2025 Indonesia: Borneo Orangutans of Tanjung Puting National Park This seven-day adventure journeys deep into the wild heart of Indonesian Borneo in search of the elusive orangutan. Three nights are spent aboard a traditional klotok boat, with delicious local meals prepared on board, and there are treks through dense rainforest by day and night, exploring hidden corners of this remote paradise. A visit to the Tanjung Harapan Orangutan Rehabilitation Center for orphaned orangutans gives a unique opportunity to see these magnificent creatures up close in a semi-wild environment. Meanwhile, time at Camp Leakey, a renowned and crucial orangutan conservation and rehabilitation center that was established by the renowned primatologist, Dr. Biruté Galdikas in the 1970s, comes with a chance to watch rangers feeding the orangutans. A visit to Tanjung Harapan village gives insight into the local people and their relationship with the rainforest – something the group will appreciate all the more by the end of the adventure. Priced from £1,179 per person, with departures from 8 November 2025 Highlights of Sumatra This seven-day journey through Sumatra island in Western Indonesia immerses travellers in a side of Indonesia that few get to see. Travellers will revel in jungle treks, explore hidden villages and experience epic wildlife encounters, including a hike through the lush Gunung Leuser National Park to search for the elusive Sumatran orangutan. The itinerary includes exhilarating river tube rides and soaks in steamy hot springs under the stars, plus trips to several local villages, including the traditional Karo Batak village, Dokan Village. The Karo ethnic group of the Batak people are known for the exceptional conservation of their traditions and culture, more so than other Batak groups, and the group will hear first-hand from them about this. Priced from £679* per person, with departures from 8 October 2025 New trips launched earlier in 2025: Solo-ish Bali Geared towards those who want to travel for themselves, not by themselves, this 10-day Solo-ish trip is all about group connection and meaningful experiences in some of the lesser-seen parts of Bali. There are waterfalls, swimming adventures and temple visits, plus a stay in a colourful and eclectic guesthouse in the mountain village of Kubutambahan. A lunch at a G Adventures-supported Bali Community Training Lunch Program educates the group on the stereotypes that exist in some parts of the country for those born with a disability. The initiative supports people living with disabilities on the island, helping them find independence and meaningful employment through hospitality training. Priced from £1,049* per person for 10 days, with departures from 15 May 2025 Bali and Komodo: Dragons, Rice Terraces & Cultural Ceremonies This 12-day Geluxe Collection trip takes travellers on a comfortable, unhurried journey through the emerald-green landscapes of Bali, from lush jungle treks near Munduk and relaxed beaches of Candidasa.
