  MSC Cruises announced today upgrades to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the cruise line’s private island in The Bahamas. The island will receive new facilities to enhance the guest experience and an extended pier to allow two ships to call simultaneously – due for completion in late 2027.   Ocean Cay opened in late 2019 and quickly became a must-visit, guest-favourite destination on MSC Cruises’ Caribbean itineraries. Reflecting the company’s longstanding commitment to marine conservation, the cruise line transformed the former industrial site into a beautiful unique private island destination with crystal blue waters and pristine white sand beaches.   With over two miles of pristine beachfront spread across eight world-class beaches, Ocean Cay is designed with comfort in mind., The island features a wide range of facilities and experiences including dedicated areas to relax or swim, seven bars, Seakers Food Court for casual dining and food trucks along with a range of fun-filled water activities, all thoughtfully spread across the island.   Construction work has also begun on extending the pier to accommodate two ships. Vessels dock directly at Ocean Cay, meaning guests can walk ashore with ease.   Today at Fitur, the International Tourism Trade Fair taking place in Madrid, Spain, MSC Cruises spoke of their new year-round operation from La Romana, Dominican Republic starting November 2026.   In the presence of the Dominican Republic Minister of Tourism, David Collado, the cruise line committed its year-round operation from a brand-new homeport in La Romana, in the south of the Dominican Republic for the long-term.   MSC Cruises has reported their best ever start to January, with overall bookings for 2026 up 10% year-on-year.   Bookings for Summer 2026 are up 21%, with departures from the UK performing particularly strongly up 24% on 2025. Summer bookings to the Mediterranean and Caribbean have also increased by 11% and 10% respectively versus 2025.   For the Winter 2026/27 season, MSC Cruises is seeing very strong demand for their domestic programme with ex-UK bookings up 60% versus this time last year. • 56% of Brits admit they’re craving winter sun to lift their mood during the dark months, new research from MSC Cruises finds
• Almost 1 in 4 people (23%) have sat outside in the freezing cold to get their sunshine fix

  Brits are going to extreme lengths to get some sunshine during the dark winter months, as new research commissioned by MSC Cruises highlights that nearly a quarter (23%) sit outside in the cold because it’s sunny, with 13% even sunbathing in winter clothes. Some take a simpler approach, with 40% taking Vitamin D supplements and 28% booking a flight to a sunnier location.   Craving Winter Sun   From sunrise alarm clocks to light therapy and even the latest TikTok wellness trends, Brits are trying it all to lift their mood during the dark winter months. Over three quarters (78%) believe that winter has a negative impact on their well-being, with 56% saying that they are craving sunshine to lift their mood and 77% get a mood boost from seeing sunny destinations on TV. Over two thirds (69%) of Brits say they’ve suffered from the winter blues and 59% are struggling more with the winter blues compared to previous years.   Getting through January   Nearly all Brits (95%) agree that it's important to have things to look forward to in January, from the little things that get the nation through the colder months, like indulging in some chocolate for a mood boost or going for a winter walk, to 41% of people saying that they book a holiday to escape the cold.

  Holiday must-haves   When they eventually escape on holiday, getting some sunshine is the most important thing for Brits with 50% look forward to getting some sun.   Today, MSC Cruises announced a major new order for four next-generation cruise vessels and two additional options from MEYER WERFT in Papenburg marking the launch of its new “New Frontier” platform - a brand-new class of ships. The order will secure full capacity at the shipyard well into the next decade.   The announcement was made today at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in Berlin by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche and Energy Minister-President Lower Saxony, Olaf Lies, MSC Cruises’ Executive Chairman Pierfrancesco Vago and MEYER WERFT’s CEO Dr. Bernd Eikens.   Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises, said: “MEYER WERFT’s track record, expertise and proud history make it a true beacon of European shipbuilding.
