A new eight-part TV series featuring Holland America Line will air from next month on Channel 4.
Episode one of ‘Supercruising: Life at Sea’ will broadcast at 8pm on July 3 and will be available to stream on Channel4.com.
The series captures the experience on Holland America’s 2700-guest Pinnacle class ships Rotterdam and Nieuw Statendam over three voyages, sailing to destinations including the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, South America, Canary Islands and North Africa. The line’s first homeport season from Dover in a decade is also highlighted.
The series, produced by Crackit TV, shares a behind the scenes look at life onboard, revealing what it takes to operate a cruise ship around the clock. A variety of shore excursions also feature, as guests explore destinations across three continents.
Episode one introduces a variety of crew, including Rotterdam’s captain Eric Barhorst as he oversees operations on the ship’s Bridge whilst cruising the Caribbean and Panama Canal, and executive chef Jundiel Marcelo and his culinary team of 200, as they prepare to set sail on Nieuw Statendam from Dover.
Guests take advantage of a range of shore excursions including horse riding in the lagoon of RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, Holland America’s private island in the Bahamas, and in Madeira a couple experience a thrilling 2km basket sledge ride where – under the supervision of highly trained locals named ‘carreiros’ – they steer the basket down the steep and windy roads at speeds of up to 24mph.
Karen Farndell, UK director of sales and marketing at Holland America Line, said: “We can’t wait for the series to air next week and showcase everything that makes Holland America an unforgettable experience. All the highlights of travelling with us, both on and off ours ships, are perfectly brought to life.
“And the show will ideally equip agents to inspire their customers and confidently sell our cruises. As we mark our first season sailing from Dover in a decade, there’s no better time to engage with us and turn that connection into bookings.”
The docuseries is narrated by actor Nick Brimble.
