Friday, 07 Mar, 2023 0

Icelandair has agreed a deal for up to 45,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel with supplier IdunnH2.

The supply will start from 2028 onwards.

It would account for around 10% annual reduction of carbon emissions from Icelandair´s international network.

IdunnH2 will produce the carbon-neutral e-fuel at its site near Keflavík International Airport.

The sustainable aviation fuel will be blended with conventional jet fuel and can be used on the current fleet.

Icelandair has set targets to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030 and net zero by 2050.

E-fuels are produced from green hydrogen and recycled CO2.

Bogi Nils Bogason, CEO said: “It shows that we want to to support pioneers that are working on the development of sustainable aviation fuels in Iceland.”
