15 dead after Thai tourist boat capsizes
At least 15 people are confirmed dead after a river boat capsized in a popular Thai tourist town.
The river boat capsized on the Chao Phraya river near the ancient city of Ayutthaya and was thought to be carrying up to 100 people.
There are at least 10 people unaccounted for, said Udomsak Khaonoona, regional chief of disaster prevention.
"The boat tried to avoid another vessel and crashed into the concrete column of a bridge," he told AFP, adding that no foreign tourists were among the dead.
There are about 46 people injured, with 10 in a critical condition.
It is thought most of the victims were part of a large group of Thai-Muslim tourists.
Ayutthaya, located about one hour north of Bangkok, is the former Thai capital and a popular day trip destination for its historic temples.
