2025 on the way of being the best year ever for tourism in Czechia
Czechia experiences a strong growth in tourism as confirmed by numbers in Q2 of 2025. Hotels, guesthouses and other accommodation facilities recorded a total of 6.3 million guests who spent over 15 million nights. The average length of stay reached 3.38 days. Domestic tourists accounted for 53.3% of all arrivals, foreign guests 46.7%.
Foreign visitors came mostly from Germany (665,000), Slovakia (269,000) and Poland (259,000). However, Czechia saw also a high number of travelers from the USA, Great Britain and Austria. Visitors from Kazakhstan, Israel and Saudi Arabia stay the longest.
Metropolis leads, regions strengthen
Prague maintains its position as the most popular destination in Czechia – in the second quarter it welcomed over 2.2 million visitors, more than a third of all arrivals. The South Moravian (625,000) and South Bohemian (494,000) regions hold on to the next positions thanks to cultural events, wine tourism or natural beauty.
The Karlovy Vary region has the longest average length of stay (4.67 days), highlighting its spa character. Shorter stays are typical for the South Moravian Region (2.88 days) and Prague (3.27 days), where tourists often head for long weekends.
Year-on-year growth and year-on-year jumpers
Compared to the same period in 2024, arrivals are up 5.6% and overnight stays are up 6.9%. The number of overnight stays grew faster for foreigners (+8.8%) than for residents (+5.3%). The most significant percentage increases among foreign markets were recorded in Ireland (+33.6%), Argentina (+28.6%) and Japan (+23.4%).
“The second quarter confirms that Czechia attracts tourists throughout the year and to all regions. Traditional neighboring markets are holding strong, but we are seeing strong growth from more distant destinations – from Ireland to Argentina to Japan. Compared to 2019, some markets are significantly outperforming those numbers. We’re also seeing growth in lesser-known regions, and the length of stay of international visitors is gradually increasing again. Our priority is to maintain this positive trend, extend the length of stays and increase tourist spending,” analyzed František Reismüller, director of the Czech Tourist Authority – CzechTourism.
The positive second quarter results predict an excellent year 2025. “From January to June, nearly 10.5 million visitors came to Czechia and spent more than 25.6 million nights in the country. If this trend continues, 2025 could be one of the most successful years in the last decade. Growing interest from distant markets, the return of Asian tourists and steady domestic demand are creating a strong foundation for further tourism development across the country,” added Reismüller.
