Bergen has been added as low cost carrier Jet2.com’s 30th destination.

The carrier is to start serving the Norwegian destination from Newcastle with two flights a week from April 18.

Ticket prices start at £19.99 one-way including taxes.

The airline’s commercial director Steve Lee said: “We are very excited to be launching our inaugural service to Scandinavia and Bergen is a fantastic first destination

“Jet2.com’s new service to Bergen will also be the first in the UK outside of London to serve the city, so we are very excited to once again be setting the agenda when it comes to low cost flights from the North to great destinations at great prices.

“We expect people from throughout the North to take advantage of the quickest and cheapest way to get to Bergen and indeed the Fjords. Taking the ferry typically takes 26 hours; roughly a whole day longer than flying with us.”
