A million set to flock to the sun

Some 1.7 million people are due to fly abroad through Britain’s airports this weekend, with poor weather forecast for the UK for the bank holiday weekend.

According to The Times, the busiest airport in the country will be Heathrow, which is expecting to process 220,000 passengers today, while Gatwick’s busiest day will be tomorrow, with 110,000 passengers likely to fly from the airport.

The newspaper quotes BAA as saying that 1.7 million passengers will pass through its seven airports over the course of the long weekend.

Those who are leaving the country could be making a wise decision, the newspaper suggests, with rain forecast for many parts of the country and the AA predicting that it will have to cope with some 50,000 breakdowns between today and Monday.
