A nativity gift from darkest Peru
Italy: Donkey, ox and a manger all carved from block of pure cocaine
Without doubt, customs officers have got their work cut out these days – a fact that has been graphically illustrated by a bizarre discovery at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci airport.
According to various online news sources, officers at the airport immediately became suspicious when a three-kilogram package turned up from Peru; further investigations showed that the package contained pure cocaine worth a million pounds.
On opening the package, they discovered a complete nativity scene, comprising a manger, a donkey, an ox – and baby Jesus – carved from a solid block made from the drug. Despite protestations from the recipient of the package, who claimed it contained a “unique artwork from South America” and that he was an expert on sacred art, he was arrested.
Another white Christmas scuppered …
