A teen trend?

The Westin Rio Mar Beach Golf Resort & Spa in Puerto Rico may be starting a trend with its new resort experience designed specifically for teenagers.

“As a popular destination for families, we’ve had plenty of opportunities to see that teenagers and parents sometimes need a break from each other  —  especially when they’re trying to relax on vacation,” said Drew Toth, the resort’s director of marketing & sales.

The resort has set up a recreation club atmosphere with a wide variety of indoor activities as well as island adventures.

There are game rooms and cafes with plasma television, music videos, karaoke, pool, games and sports equipment. “Smoothies” and light snacks are available at the X-Perience bar.

In addition to on-property activities, the resort coordinates off-site adventures such as river kayaking and horseback riding that are popular with teenagers.

The 500-acre Westin Rio Mar has a one-mile stretch of sandy shoreline along the Atlantic Ocean. Hotel officials say it has the widest array of beach and water activity anywhere on the island. It also has two golf courses and a Mandara Spa.
