AAC changes name as part of recruitment drive

The Association of Airline Consolidators (AAC) has changed its name in order to reflect the changing business interests of its members.

The AAC acronym will now stand for the Association of ATOL Companies because the majority of its members now sell modular and tailor-made itineraries rather than just flights.

AAC chairman David Mortimer (C and B Flights) told TravelMole: “There was a lot misunderstanding concerning what we were about. We were thought to be representing the interests of people who sold seat only wholesale but that is outdated. It might have been true to start with, but that was seven or eight years ago now. We have something to offer everyone who has got an ATOL licence.”

Mr Mortimer said the name change formed part of the organisation’s plans to double its membership within the next year. The AAC currently has 70 member companies who represent around 80% of all of discounted scheduled airline seats sold in the UK.

As part of its expansion plans, the AAC is also looking for a salaried chief executive to help take some of the workload from members of its Executive Committee. Mr Mortimer explained: “The problem we have is one facing many trade associations. They are being run on a voluntary basis by people who have their own businesses as well, which creates obvious difficulties.”
