Acapulco back on the radar with Volaris LA service
Mexican airline Volaris will start flying weekly from Los Angeles International Airport to Acapulco next month.
The service begins in time for the busy holiday season with the maiden flight taking off on December 19.
The route will be served by Airbus jets ranging from 144 to 230 seats depending on the seasonal demand and Volaris announced fares starting at $105 one way for the four-hour flight.
Acapulco becomes the 11th Mexican city Volaris serves from LAX.
Other destinations include Mexico City, Morelia, Guadalajara and Oaxaca.
In the doldrums for many years after been dogged by gun violence, Acapulco has seen a gradual resurgence recently.
However there is still very limited direct airlift to the US.
That could change over time with a new state-of-the-art airport terminal facility opening in 2018 that will increase arrivals capacity.
Ernesto Rodriguez, secretary of tourism of Guerrero State recently announced $1 billion in new investment for Acapulco in tourism infrastructure and new attractions.
