Accor does a double take
Two of Accor’s most senior General Managers will this month swap roles as Walter Immoos, GM of the Menzies Hotel and Michael Smith, GM of Novotel Northbeach in Wollongong take over each other’s jobs.
The new assignments give the long-serving general managers the opportunity to bring a fresh approach to two of Accor’s most established hotels.
Walter Immoos has worked at the Menzies Hotel for more than a decade, in that time developing a reputation as a hands-on manager as likely to be seen helping guests with their bags as rolling up his sleeves in the kitchen during a busy breakfast service.
Michael Smith worked at Novotel Northbeach for three and a half years after a two-year stint at Grand Mercure Bowral Heritage Park and a period at Novotel Langley in Perth.
“One of the great things about working for Accor is that you have a lot of mobility if you want it,” said Walter Immoos. “While I was sad to leave the Menzies after so long, I am very excited to be starting at the Novotel and am looking forward to a more regionalised approach after working at a big city hotel.”
Michael Smith, meanwhile, says he is pleased he has swapped the beach for the city life.
“The Menzies has just undergone a major refurbishment after celebrating its 40th anniversary so it is a very exciting time to be here,” he said. “The Menzies is an icon in Sydney accommodation and I hope to continue the great work Walter has done in making it one of the city’s favourite hotels.”
Accor recently introduced new systems to allow even greater mobility for hotel general managers, and with a network of 4000 hotels globally certainly offers a great selection of destinations to choose from.
