Adonia sails into Southampton ….just in time
More than 100 travel agents were onboard P&O Cruises’ newest ship, Adonia, to see it christened by singer Dame Shirley Bassey.
The 710-passenger vessel sailed into its homeport Southampton on Friday, much to the relief of those who feared the naming ceremony was going to have to be postponed as Adonia was late leaving the shipyard in Barbados.Last Friday’s event for travel agents had already been cancelled, although TravelMole understands those due to attend will be invited back following the ship’s maiden voyage.
Dame Shirley was joined at the naming ceremony by Downtown Abbey actor Hugh Bonneville.
P&O Cruises managing director, Carol Marlow, said: “We are delighted to welcome Adonia into her homeport for the very first time. She is the perfect addition to our fleet and will celebrate all those things our regular passengers love about cruising with us – a classic dance floor, Crow’s Nest observation lounge, formal nights, classical music recitals, guest speakers, silver service dining and a dedicated card room.
Adonia left Southampton yesterday on her maiden cruise, a 16-night cruise to the Western Mediterranean, which includes calls to Alghero in Sardinia; Portofino in Italy; Sete in France; Port Mahon in Menorca and Barcelona in Spain.
