Advertising chiefs uphold complaints against online agent

Advertising watchdogs have upheld two separate complaints against online agent Broadway Travel Services (Wimbledon).

The Advertising Standards Authority said the agent was guilty of misleading customers after receiving complaints about two of its adverts.

One was for a four-star holiday to Malta, advertised on broadwaytravel.com for £129pp, and the other was for seven nights half-board in Sorrento, advertised on Teletext for £351pp.

The ASA said that in both cases Broadway Travel had not provided sufficient evidence that the holidays were available for the prices stated and it failed to make it clear in its advertising that they were lead in prices.

It barred the agent from repeating the ads in their current form and ordered it to make it clear in headlines that prices were ‘from’. The ASA also said Broadway Travel must ensure it holds sufficient evidence to demonstrate that advertised prices are available to consumers when ads appear.
