Advertising complaint upheld against Economy Car Hire
The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld a complaint that the website of Norfolk-based Economy Car Hire was misleading.
A complaint was made after the operator advertised 'fully inclusive, cheap car hire with no insurance excess, unlimited mileage and FREE additional driver'.
But when the client returned the car, he was charged an additional local fee for one-way hire.
The ASA agreed that although the website had included information about additional local charges for one-way hire, it was not on the home page where the ‘fully inclusive’ claim appeared.
It also said while consumers would understand that delivery, sat-nav, child/booster seats and snow chains were optional extras, they would expect a one-way journey fee to be included in the total cost.
