After ‘red list’ removal, Portugal ready to welcome UK visitors

Thursday, 19 Mar, 2021 0

Portugal will welcome British holidaymakers this summer, even without a vaccination.

Portugal’s tourism minister Rita Marquez said that non-vaccinated ravellers will be allowed into the country if they show proof of a negative Covid test.

Marquez said that Portugal is preparing to welcome British tourists from 17 May, the date Brits may be able to travel overseas for leisure purposes again.

It follows the country being removed from the UK travel ‘red list’ with effect from today.

Speaking of the red list removal, Luis Araujo, President of the Portuguese National Tourism Board said: "This decision represents a vote of confidence in this new phase the world is going through, in addition to encouraging visits to the destination to stimulate economic activity."

"It is important to signal that Portugal is committed to welcoming all in a safe and sustainable way. We are ready to give those who choose to visit us the same great experiences with added safety."

There are over 22.000 tourism companies designated with the Clean & Safe Seal, the tourism board says.

Other holiday hotspots Greece, Cyprus, Turkey and Spain have indicated they will welcome Brits this summer as soon as the UK allows  overseas travel for leisure.
