After-shave incident causes terror alert
United States: Student sprayed security guards, who were then quarantined
A massive anti-terror operation swung into action at Philadelphia International Airport yesterday when a traveller sprayed after-shave at a security guard.
According to the Ananova website, the Saudi Arabian passenger, who is a student, sprayed the liquid at three guards to prove that it was not a dangerous substance – and inadvertently set off a major alert.
The airport’s anti-terror process went into gear, with the three guards – and anyone who had been in contact with them – being quarantined until the after-shave was proved not to be a dangerous substance by a fire department hazardous materials team.
An FBI spokesman later confirmed that the student was later proved to be travelling legally, that no law had been broken – and that he had missed his flight to Europe because of the incident.
