Agents ‘losing 110m Euros in hotel commissions’

Tuesday, 27 May, 2004 0

Agents are losing up to 20% of their hotel booking commissions by failing to collect money owed, Amadeus claims.

Launching what it claims is the first automated commission clearing service on a GDS for hotels in conjunction with travel technology provider Net Trans, Amadeus says more than 110 million Euros-worth of commission is being lost a year on electronic hotel bookings.

The deal allows travel agencies to protect their hotel revenues by automatically securing prompt commission payments. The Active Commission service is being offered at a “preferential price” to Amadeus agents.

Net Trans chief executive Trond Sorensen said: “Net Trans has employed five years development on what we consider a vital service which is now going to be made available to almost 70,000 travel agencies across the globe thanks to our strategic agreement.

“Some of our customers have seen commissions rise by as much as 40% using our service,” he claimed.

Amadeus director travel service partners Stephane Durand said: “We are confident hat this agreement with Net Trans will add significant value to our hotel distribution offering. Last year’s launch of Dynamic Access highest-level connectivity and introduction of multimedia saw hotel bookings grow 11% in 2003 and already 15% in the first quarter of 2004,”
