Ahead for air travelers: busiest travel day
Perhaps a date to avoid traveling: The next peak air travel day will be 2 January of next year, while the last peak was 21 December, said the Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) which also predicted top destinations for next year.
The top three destinations in 2008 will be Las Vegas, Orlando and Los Angeles, according to ARC data.
“More than one-third of worldwide commercial air travel is processed by ARC creating the single largest data base of US ticketed transactions in the world,” said ARC, which added:
“Analyzing the wealth of available data, ARC is not only able to reveal critical information based on actual events but can also use such data to forecast patterns and future trends.”
So it’s top ten destinations next year show the top ten cities after the first three are: Chicago, Denver, Atlanta, Miami, New York, Phoenix and Dallas/Ft. Worth.
Las Vegas will replace Los Angeles as next year’s top city. Chicago has also been a No. 1 in past years.
In other information, ARC says:
“In addition to the peak travel day expected on January 2, 2008 and the weekend before Christmas, the data confirms that even when Christmas falls mid-week, most people are avoiding the airports on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.”
Historically, ARC data has shown that by the second week of January passengers have reverted to a typical weekly travel pattern.
