AI travel agents that will fool you into the perfect vacation
Estonia, often hailed as the ‘digital republic’ has long been a leader in tech innovation.
It has been at the forefront of pioneering e-governance systems and produced global tech titans like Skype, Wise, and Bolt.
The Baltic nation has also set the standard for software development and AI-driven solutions.
Estonia is now showcasing its tech prowess in travel with the launch of ‘Aprilli Esimene’, a chain of AI-powered retail travel agent outlets branded as ‘Aprillinali.’
It is the brainchild of Tallinn-based investment company Teid On Pettetud inc.
Aprillinali aims to disrupt the travel industry by combining cutting-edge artificial intelligence with old-school retail charm.
The shops promise to revolutionise holiday planning by offering personalised trip suggestions based entirely on AI algorithms that analyse your social media posts, online shopping habits, and even Spotify playlists.
At Aprillinali, customers are greeted by ‘AI Travel Gurus,’ programmed to mimic Estonian sarcasm and wit.
These bots have been trained on a database of Estonian humour and will occasionally suggest trips to obscure destinations like the “Centre of the Earth” or “Atlantis”—a nod to the brand’s playful name.
The AI system powering Aprillinali is named ‘ReisiBot 3000.’
ReisiBot uses machine learning to predict not only where you want to go but also where you ‘should’ go based on your stress levels and vitamin D deficiency (calculated via facial scans).
The system is so advanced that it once recommended a beach holiday in Antarctica for a customer who had posted too many penguin memes.
Funding for the venture comes from Teid On Pettetud, whose CEO described the project as ‘a joke that got out of hand.’
Despite its branding, Aprillinali is expected to attract serious attention from travellers seeking unique experiences. The first outlets will open in Tallinn, Tartu, and Pärnu on April 1—a date chosen deliberately to match the company’s whimsical ethos.
Whether Aprillinali becomes the next big thing or just an elaborate prank remains to be seen—but one thing is certain: Estonia continues to redefine what’s possible in tech.
