Air Astana moving airports in Moscow

Friday, 22 Aug, 2019 0

Kazakhstan carrier Air Astana is shifting its operations across the city in Moscow.

From October 27, 2019, the airline will end operations at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport and move to terminal 1 at Domodedovo Airport.

It covers all services into Moscow from both Nur-Sultan (formerly Astana) which has 11 weekly flights in winter, and Almaty which has 14 weekly services.

It operates more frequencies to Moscow during the summer from both its Kazakh hubs.

The change will not impact any flight operations, it says.

Part of the reasoning for the change is to align services better with new codeshare partner S7 Airlines.

Domodedovo Airport is S7’s main Moscow hub.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport has international and domestic flights operating from a single terminal and is the base for global alliances OneWorld and Star Alliance.

It served 29.4 million passengers in 2018.

Air Astana this week posted its financial results for the six months ending 30 June 2019.

The total number of passengers carried was marginally up to 2.1 million, despite the late arrival of new aircraft

Domestic traffic growth surged by 20% in the second quarter, thanks to the launch of its low cost brand FlyArystan, which took flight for the first time in May.
