Air Berlin on target for 15m carryings
Expanding European low cost carrier Air Berlin is on course to carry more than 15 million passengers this year.
The airline, which has been developing UK domestic links to continental Europe via Stansted, saw July passenger numbers rise by more than 15% to 1.6 million over the same month in 2005.
Carryings in the first seven months of 2006 were up by 13% to 8.5 million.
The July figures showed the airline almost doubling passengers from Stansted, with Manchester showing a 28% increase.
German airports showing the greatest growth raes were Frankfurt (44%), Nuremberg (26%), Dusseldorf (18%), Berlin (18%), Stuttgart (15%) and Hanover (14%).
Other airports outside Germany recording high growth levels were Catania (89%), Zurich (55%), Milan (33%) and Vienna (27%).
CEO Joachim Hunold said: “By the end of the year we will have carried well above 15 million passengers.”
