Air Canada, Air China team up for Montreal-Beijing route
Air China and Air Canada have entered into a strategic partnership to operate the first transpacific flights between Montreal and Asia.
Air China will initially operate three weekly Montreal-Beijing flights beginning September 29, 2015 and Air Canada will place its code on the flights on a codeshare basis.
Following approvals, the Star Alliance members will undertake a revenue sharing joint venture, previously announced last year, which is due to take effect in the second half of 2015.
The carriers plan an enhanced partnership on routes between China and Canada to stimulate air traffic across the Pacific and boost business on the two airlines’ domestic networks in China and North America respectively.
"We look forward to offering customers the first transpacific direct link from Montreal to Asia and developing our partnership with Air China through a joint venture that will provide customers of both carriers additional travel options," said Calin Rovinescu, Air Canada CEO.
Air China operates up to 11 weekly flights between Beijing and Vancouver while Air Canada flies to Beijing and Shanghai from Toronto and Vancouver.
