Air India employee social media ban is illegal, says union
A pilots’ union is urging Air India to reconsider its ‘illegal’ ban on employees posting on social media channels.
According to the Indian Commercial Pilots Association, Air India employees, whether serving or retired, are banned from posting anything on social media without the airline’s express permission. This includes personal content unrelated to the airline, the union says.
The airline’s new policy, which was introduced earlier this month, gives the airline the right to monitor online comments or discussions. This is ‘patently illegal’ the union says.
The policy is violates the fundamental right of freedom of speech, the union wrote in a letter to Air India’s managing director Rajiv Bansal.
