Air India fined over ‘peegate’ scandal
Air India has been fined over its role in the infamous ‘peegate’ incident.
Air India was fined $37,000 by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for how it handed the incident.
Air India’s director of in-flight services was also separately fined.
The incident caused outrage when an allegedly drunk passenger urinated on a 72-year old woman in business class.
Shankar Mishra was allowed to disembark as normal.
Action was taken only when an official complaint was made.
Mishra has been held on bail and faces charges.
Air India admitted it ‘could have handled the matter better, both in the air and on the ground.’
