Air traffic control strike hits travellers
Italy: Carriers set to cancel services as one-day action causes disruption
Anyone heading to or from Italy today could be faced with travel chaos because of a one-day strike by air traffic controllers.
Airlines including Alitalia, British Airways, Ryanair, EasyJet and BMI have all cancelled flights to the country; as many as two thirds of today’s flights to Italy are likely to face some sort of disruption.
British Airways alone has cancelled 24 flights with another 20 being rescheduled, while Ryanair says it has cancelled nearly 40 flights. Passengers departing from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Brimingham and Edinburgh are likely to be affected by the action.
