AirAsia considering Hawaii flights
Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia has hinted at a possible new route from Asia to Hawaii.
AirAsia group founder and CEO Tony Fernandes posted on Twitter: "We are exploring Hawaii as part of our growth strategy."
This came after an earlier tweet confirming the carrier plans to resume long haul flights to London.
"I am pleased to announce that the reopening of KL-London is definitely on the cards. We will be in discussion with (London mayor) Boris Johnson next week."
Johnson arrives in Malaysia Sunday for a three day visit.
"KL-London is the most wanted route for AirAsia X," Fernandes said.
"We will deliver it I am quite sure."
Air Asia’s KL-London route was scrapped in 2012 due to high operating costs but more fuel efficient A330-900neo aircraft the company has on order would make the route viable again, said AirAsia X CEO Azran Osman Rani.
The Hawaii route would also be dependent on the new aircraft and would likely depart from Japan where it is establishing a joint venture next year.
