AirAsia India passengers, crew injured after attempt to open door mid-flight

More mid-flight shenanigans in the skies above India after a passenger was arrested for endangering flight operations.

During a sudden mid-air meltdown, an AirAsia passenger tried to open an emergency door just prior to landing at Ranchi Airport.

According to reports, several passengers and the crew were injured trying to subdue the 32-year old man, who was named as Aftab Ahmed.

"Aftab Ahmed, a 32-year-old resident of Ranchi, tried to open the emergency door. After landing at Ranchi Airport, he was handed over to the local police," a spokesperson said.

It is still unclear why he attempted to open the door and is still being detained by police.

It is just one of a string of recent instances of unruly behaviour aboard flights, with even high ranking politicians getting in on the act.

After two separate incidents, MPs Ravindra Gaikwad and JC Diwakar Reddy were both temporarily banned from flying with the former’s violent ruckus prompting the establishment of a no-fly list for misbehaving passengers.

A framework for a no-fly list is still being finalised and specific rules governing it were due to be published in early July after a short public consultation period.
