AirAsia signs up Roberto Carlos as global brand ambassador
AirAsia hopes to score more business with a new global brand ambassador.
The budget airline has tapped Brazilian football legend Roberto Carlos to promote its services globally.
The appointment was unveiled in Kuala Lumpur alongside AirAsia Malaysia CEO Riad Asmat and AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail and adds to the airline’s ‘roster of world champion brand ambassadors,’ said group CEO Tony Fernandes.
"I am thrilled to represent a brand like AirAsia, which prides itself in making dreams come true," Carlos said.
The much decorated left back played at three FIFA World Cup tournaments with Brazil, winning one in 2002, and won multiple Spanish La Liga and UEFA Champions League titles during a successful spell at Real Madrid.
During his playing career Carlos was dubbed ‘the Bullet Man" in recognition of his often unstoppable free kicks.
The signing as Carlos as a new global brand ambassador will allow AirAsia to explot interest in this summer’s FIFA World Cup which kicks off in Russia in June.
Carlos is not the first footballer to align themselves with the airline.
Former Manchester United South Korean star Park Ji Sung also worked as an AirAsia ambadassor.
